If you're interested in setting up your own student self checkout in your library, here's what you'll need:
-Computer (I use a Chromebook)
-Scanner (I use Honeywell from Demco)
-Self Checkout Log in for library program (I use Destiny from Follett)
First, you will need a device for students to checkout their materials on. I use a Chromebook because they are very inexpensive, and really perfect for this because they are just used for internet browsing.
Second, you'll need a scanner. I like a hands free scanner because the students won't be grabbing at it and I know it will stay put. I bought the Honeywell MS9520-Voyager from Demco for around $300. Buy it here.
Lastly, you'll need to get your self check out log in for your library check out system ready to go. This is best to do so that students don't have access to things you don't want them to see when they are using the system. For example, I don't want them to be able to delete any fines or edit anything. Basically I just want them to check out a book or renew a book. Here is the webpage I visited to set up my Follett Destiny user log in: check out the PDF by clicking HERE.
Oh! Don't forget cute signs giving directions, just in case students forget! Remember, you can use www.canva.com to create FREE graphics! I made all of mine there.
